Mekong River Trip

Yesterday was spent looking around Saigon.
We spent today on a Meekong River tour with a lovely couple from Indonesia, 4 American guys and a Singaporean(?) couple. It was a very full day starting at 7.30 with a two hour bus ride, then a boat tour, market walk, canoe ride, lunch, bike ride (we didn't do this as there were no kids bikes; attempted about 50 metres with the kids on the back of our bikes but with a bumpy road and no brakes this wasn't much fun)more boats, bus and back.
Seeing the guy driving the horse and buggy pull out his mobile phone and start talking was a laugh. Lunch was very basic - chicken, white rice, cold veg and a broth. The broth wasn't too bad but most of the chicken we gave to the dogs near our table. One of the American guys, Ron, ordered snake. He offered us some but we politely declined. After lunch we had a rest in the hammocks.
The kids were exhausted after a long day!
Tonight we catch the sleeping bus to Nha Trang which should be interesting. We are looking forward to moving out to the coast as Saigon is very hectic with ten million motor bikes. Our tour guide told us that forty people a day are killed here in motorbike accidents. Needless to say we won't be going on any motorbikes.

  1. Hi Angela, Frank and the kids. It was really nice meeting all of you on the Mekong river tour. Funny how you wrote about the singaporean couple :) I was really inspired with your travel plan, and after reaching back the hotel wondered if we were brave enough to do something similar too. But I guess we will wait until our son gets just a bit older before trying something spontaneous.
We will definitely follow your blog and looking forward to read your next travel adventures.
Hopefully we can meet again sometime, have a safe and fun trip!
